The first ever £5,000 Jackpot winner announced to kick start the New Year!

Carole Clark, who lives near Hesket New Market was the third jackpot winner in the Pride in Penrith Lottery.  The draw, which took place on the 11th January was only the second draw of 2012 and produced the first ever £5,000 winner.

The draw, which takes place every Wednesday, goes up by £100 each week until the team at the Pride in Penrith Lottery find a winner.  Once the Jackpot reaches £5,000 a winner must be found and Carole was the lucky member whose name was drawn.  The local Lottery has over 450 members who all stand the chance of winning £500 – £5000 in the weekly draw.

Carole told us,
“I have always been very happy to support the Pride in Penrith Lottery and had no anticipation that I would ever win.  I never win anything, so it was such a lovely shock to get a call to say I had won £5,000 and I am very grateful.”

Carole, who used to work for Penrith Body Repairs, has not decided what to spend the prize winnings on yet, but to start she is going to make an earlier than planned trip to see her daughter who lives in Switzerland.

The Pride in Penrith Lottery was set up in 2010 with the objective of raising money to improve the town, ensure local events continue to take place, help local good causes and ensure the community spirit of Penrith continues to thrive.  The Lottery gives local people the opportunity to contribute to the town's well being and since its launch over £7,000 has been donated to good causes.

Andy Jackson, Pride in Penrith Lottery Chairman, comments,
“We are delighted to find our first £5,000 winner and it is a really great way to kick-start 2012.  The Pride in Penrith Lottery is going from strength to strength; in 2011 we re-branded the Lottery, created a new website and we have recently launched a new Lottery scratch card for non members.  In 2012 we hope to see more members joining to help us make a difference to the town and local community.  The team will be attending more events, we will be giving more grant funding to local good causes now we have a substantial amount of money to give away and soon people will be able to enter online.  The year ahead is going to be very exciting and we hope to find a few more jackpot winners along the way!

To play the Lottery people can download a form online, or visit one of the sales agents in town to register.  The current sales agents are Arragons Newsagents, The Corner Shop, Ullswater Road garage and Davidsons Garage.

The Pride in Penrith Lottery is a not-for-profit organisation and is run by volunteers from the town who are all passionate about making a difference to the local area and raising money for good causes.
