Pride in Penrith Lottery 1st anniversary
The Pride in Penrith Lottery recently celebrated its first anniversary as business partners, good causes and winners came together to applaud it's success over the past year.
The Pride in Penrith Lottery was set up in July 2010, with the objective of improving the town, ensuring local events continue to take place, helping local good causes and ensuring the community spirit of Penrith remains as it faces changes. The Lottery gives local people the opportunity to contribute to the town's well being, as all the money they place on the Lottery goes back into the community…as well as making some people that little bit wealthier!
In the past 365 days, the Pride in Penrith Lottery has signed up 495 members, given £4,500 in jackpot winnings, over £3,000 in smaller winnings, donated £7,000 to good causes and still have over £20,000 in the “Community pot” for other groups to come forward and claim.
Good causes the Lottery has helped in the past year include the Sunbeam Music Trust, Pony Club, Beacon Wheelers, Carleton Park Development, The Halloween Festival, Vintage Penrith and Christmas lights events. In the last couple of weeks the biggest grant to date of £2,500 was awarded to Eden Community Radio and at the anniversary event two further cheques were presented to Penrith in Bloom and Hospice at Home.
Going forward the Pride in Penrith Lottery aims to become even bigger and better and with the help of new Marketing Consultant Lisa Coates, of Acorn Marketing, they hope to launch some exciting new initiatives. To herald the changes a new vibrant, colourful and attention grabbing logo was revealed at the anniversary celebration. The website is also currently under re-construction making it more interactive; new social networking and e-communications will be implemented and there will be greater visibility in the town. Members themselves will see a considerable improvement in communications. Overall the aim is to encourage even more people to sign up.
Andy Jackson, Chairman of the Pride in Penrith Lottery comments
“The Pride in Penrith Lottery has been extremely successful so far seeing us generate nearly £30,000 for good causes and making three people lucky jackpot winners. But we have a long way to go. Imagine what we could achieve for our town if we could double our membership!! We want the Lottery to become even bigger and better and really get everyone involved. The benefits to the local area from the Lottery are immense and we need this to continue…we can only do this with the local community's help and continued support.”
Not only will there be the opportunity for people to sign up as a member of the Lottery, but there will be more events, competitions and surprises in store for the general public. People can find out more information on the new website, sign up online or visit one of the Sales agents in town (Arragons Newsagents, The Corner Shop on King Street, Ullswater Road Garage and Davidsons Garage).
The Pride in Penrith Lottery has also recently begun a 'Friends and Family scheme' which offers incentives and rewards for members who introduce a friend or family members to the Lottery. For each referral the Lottery receives members and the person who signs up gets a Marks and Spencer voucher.
“There are many charity lottery projects, but non in the area that are dedicated to improving and maintaining a town. The Pride in Penrith Lottery was born out of the idea that something needed to be done to ensure that Penrith remains a thriving town and a great place to visit. We thank the many people in the town who are passionate about this and have supported the Lottery in the first year” comments Andy
As the Pride in Penrith Lottery moves into its second year the aim is to improve communications, increase visitor numbers to the website, raise visibility, generate more money for good causes and find even more jackpot winners!
