Pride in Penrith adds sporty spice in Penruddock
The annual children’s sports day in Penruddock raced ahead into a new league this year, thanks to a grant from Pride in Penrith Lottery.
“The money we received from Pride in Penrith Lottery has allowed us to purchase equipment to cater for more people attending our children’s sports day, and put on a fun and entertaining family community event,” said Nigel Harling from the event committee.
“Thanks to our new gazebo, we’ll be able to hold the event no matter what the weather is like, and the grant has also enabled us to buy sports and games equipment to attract more children and offer different and interesting events for them.”
The sports day attracted 60 children from local communities and their families on Saturday 28 June, and has been run by the volunteer Penruddock Children’s Sports Committee since 1936.
Nigel added: “On behalf of the children and the committee, we’d like to say thank you to the lottery and our other supporters and sponsors, for helping us ensure this long-standing event goes from strength to strength.”
Lottery chairman Rob Udale said: “The lottery is all about supporting groups like Nigel’s, which are out there making our community a better place. It’s always fantastic to see young people benefiting directly from our grants. Who knows, we may just have played a part in inspiring one of our future sporting stars!”
Now’s an ideal time to join Pride in Penrith Lottery and help more local groups, with a £500 prize on offer in a special draw coming up to celebrate its fourth year, as well as the chance to win a jackpot of up to £5,000 in the weekly draws.
