New Scracthcard win £1000
In a bid to raise more money for local initiatives The Pride in Penrith Lottery has introduced a scratch card, which was launched at the Halloween Festival in Penrith on Saturday 29th October. The scratch card, costing £1, offers people the opportunity to win some fantastic cash prizes. The top prize that can be won is £1000, with other prizes ranging from £1 to £100.
As a result of feedback received from local residents it was found that some people wanted to contribute to the lottery but didn’t necessarily want to become 'full blown’ members which offers the opportunity of a weekly jackpot, currently running at £4,000, that is drawn every Wednesday. The scratch cards cost £1 and if the player loses they can be guaranteed that their money goes back to good causes in the town.
The Lottery was initially set up to help local initiatives and not for profit organisations raise money for projects that would benefit Penrith and the surrounding area. To date £7,000 has been donated to good causes including the Christmas Lights, Hospice at Home, Penrith in Bloom, Eden Community Radio, Carleton Community Project, Sunbeams Music Trust, and the Beacon Wheelers to name a few. There is still over £20,000 in funds waiting to be donated to other local good causes.
Andy Jackson, Lottery Board Chairman commented saying,
“It was apparent from feedback we received from local people that they wanted to contribute to the lottery but wanted a cash alternative rather than the commitment of a regular standing order providing for full membership and the much bigger jackpot prize. As local people are the most important part of the process we wanted to ensure everybody in the town has the opportunity to get involved. They now have two alternatives, full lottery membership and the £1 scratch card, both of which not only provide an opportunity to win substantial cash prizes but also provide further funds for local initiatives.”
The Pride in Penrith Lottery team attended the Halloween Festival in Penrith on Saturday, selling the first of the scratch cards, and the full memberships. The cards will also soon be available from the lottery sales agents in the town including Arragons Newsagents, The Corner Shop on King Street, and Ullswater Road Garage. The Lottery team will also be encouraging more businesses in the town to get involved to become sales agents and help to display the winning numbers.
The Pride in Penrith Lottery is a not-for-profit organisation and is run by volunteers from the town who are all passionate about making a difference to the local area and raising money for local initiatives.
