Local lottery supports projects & events in Penrith area
Although we’re is known for making local members a few thousand pounds richer, the true aim of Penrith Lottery is to support charities and not-for-profit organisations within a five-mile radius through our grant funding programme. The funding – available for capital expenditure and events which benefit Penrith and the surrounding area – have been awarded to a wide variety of groups, and the committee are proud to be able to support some small, local groups. Committee member Elspeth James said “As a small, local lottery, we’re really proud to be able to support such a diverse range of projects and events in and around Penrith, all of which make it a great place to live and work.”
To date, with your help, we’ve been able to grant over £150,000 to a variety of local groups, and over the past year, despite the pandemic, have been able to award several grants, including £1,500 to Penrith Cricket Club to replace their artificial playing surface, and £1,000 to Wetheriggs Football Club towards the renovation of their kitchen. The lottery has been a long-standing supporter of Eden Arts’ Winter Droving, and also Penrith BID’s Christmas Light Appeal, and we were pleased to be able to support both again in 2021. Three more significant grants have recently been approved and we’ll bring you details of those next time.
Elspeth continued “We have a few established partnerships with Penrith BID and Eden Arts for instance, where we’ve been able to provide financial support to their events in town year-on-year, but we’re always looking for new organisations to support. A grant from Penrith Lottery can make a real difference to some of the smaller organisations we’ve worked with.”
Grant applications are welcomed year-round, with applications being considered at our monthly committee meetings.
