Penrith Lottery News July 2024

As we swiftly approach the 6 month anniversary of the new Penrith Lottery, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you who have supported either the Penrith Community Lottery Fund or the other Good Causes on the new platform.

Your unwavering support, especially from those of you who have transitioned from our previous lottery format, is the cornerstone of our success. Together, we’re making a real difference in our beloved Penrith and the Eden Valley community.

About the Penrith Lottery and the Community Fund

For those new to our community, the Penrith Lottery is a not-for-profit initiative aimed at supporting local good causes across Penrith and the Eden Valley. Each ticket costs just £1, with 50p directly benefiting the cause of your choice. When you play, you choose which good cause to support.

The Penrith Lottery Community Fund is just one of the good causes listed under the Penrith Lottery umbrella. This replaced the fund under the old initiative and receives 60p of every ticket sold which goes to help those charities and not for profit organisations in and around Penrith who apply for grant funding for capital projects.

Beyond the weekly jackpot of £25,000, our monthly Super Draw offers an exciting extra chance to win prizes that vary each month. Keep your eyes peeled on our social media posts for the latest news.

Successful Grant Awards

Our community continues to thrive thanks to the successful grant awards funded by your generous contributions. We’re thrilled to announce three new grant awards this year.

Penrith Mountain Rescue Team has received funding to purchase essential equipment for their tireless volunteers. Their dedication ensures our safety in this beautiful area we are fortunate enough to call home. Our Chair, Richard Utting welcomed the opportunity to visit the PMRT Base to present a cheque and couldn’t resist a photo opportunity in the jeep!

Wetheriggs FC has been awarded funds to replace furniture in their clubhouse, a vital hub that also serves as a community centre. This facelift will provide a welcoming space for all to enjoy. We will keep you updated with photos once the work is complete.

Penrith RUFC has submitted a promising application to support the installation of solar panels. Recognising the importance of green initiatives, our committee is excited to contribute to this eco-friendly project with a small grant.

Your ticket purchases are the lifeblood of our Community Fund, enabling us to support these worthwhile projects across Penrith and the Eden Valley.

However, with the new lottery structure, we face a reduction in available funds for grants. That’s where you come in! By continuing to buy your weekly ticket(s) in support of the Penrith Lottery Community Fund, we can keep supporting the charities and not-for-profit organisations that you tell us are important to your lives, and those of your families, friends, and neighbours.

Thank you again for your unwavering support and generosity. Together, we are making a difference. You can purchase tickets that support these grants at https://www.penrithlottery.com/support/penrith.

Welcome Our Other ‘Good Causes’

We are absolutely delighted to welcome our other Good Causes to the Penrith Lottery. As this is our first Newsletter under the new lottery, it feels appropriate to name them all.

These organisations enrich our community in countless ways, and we’re excited to support their missions. By purchasing a ticket under a ‘Good Cause’ page on the website, you are helping their fundraising directly.

CVS Funding Fair

Penrith Lottery Chair, Richard Utting attended a CVS Outreach Session at Penrith Library on 21st May where organisations were encouraged to come along to not only find out more about the Penrith Lottery but also what the CVS could offer as a whole.

Cumbria CVS is a registered charity and membership organisation. They help community/voluntary/not-for-profit groups and organisations to develop and improve by providing training and services. You can check out the next Funding Fair by visiting the CVS website at: https://cumbriacvs.org.uk/training-and-events/categories/funding-fairs/

Celebrating Recent Winners

We’re thrilled to share the news of our recent winners! Congratulations to Ms B., who won the Amazon Gift Card in June’s final draw and Ms R. of Penrith who won a £25 cash prize last week.

Ms R’s lucky ticket was bought in support of the Penrith Lottery Community Fund, which supports grant applications from our local charities and not-for-profit organisations across Eden Valley, proving once again that playing the Penrith Lottery is a win-win for everyone!
